| With the economy the way it is now anything you write up would only be a guess and if you are in the USA and attempting to compete with countries like China you may as well forget it unless you target specialized low volume and one of a kind work. I have watched what has happened over the years and as an American manufacturer I am competing against government subsidized material, labor rates that are insane and countries that have almost zero regulation as far as safety and issues with the EPA , OSHA, Workers comp ect. Yes the market is growing no question I have seen an explosion in the laser cutting/ engraving field in the last 15 years but I would guess that most of the growth is not in the USA any longer. Maybe you could find a niche in the consumer goods market but in the industrial market you are in for a very tough time. Any companies doing laser engraving in my area which is Ohio are doing it almost exclusively on their own products and not on a subcontract basis , this is to reduce manufacturing costs on an existing product and not as a for profit service offered. These companies have incorporated this process right into existing lines so you would have a tough time trying to beat that. I know this is not much help and probably not what you wanted to hear but they are the facts. If you are not in the USA then things are much different and there is nothing I can tell you that would be of much help. Don't be offended by this but if you are not in the USA it would certainly not be in my best interest to offer any advice as to how to take more jobs away from the USA any way there is too much of that going on now and it is hurting our economy killing jobs and resulting in horrible exploitation of people in less developed countries where there is no protection for the workers, the pay rates are sinful and the profits of the companies doing it are skyrocketing, that is a whole different subject though which I am sure I am going to hear about from someone in here ha ha. |

| well first i want to thank you for your's answer. for the content of your answer: If the business specializes in According to customer order, i do not see many customers who go to China or make a contact with Chinese companies to do their order for for a single order without fear of its result for example if you got a bottle of wine and you want to engrave on it did you was looking for a Chinese company to make it for you? and is not must be only a Chinese company is can be any other company from all over the world. or you can just go to american company to make it for you. and i am not from the usa. i know there is a bad time now in the US but we here in a global forum so if everybody will act as you told: "but if you are not in the USA it would certainly not be in my best interest to offer any advice as to how to take more jobs away from the USA" so what the point in the forum if not to share advice? sorry for my english and thanks again. |

It does not have to be China it could be any country I was just using them as an example because they happen to be the current country most exploited by the large corporations. If you will go back and read my post again you will see that I said exactly what you are talking about and that is forget the volume production and target the consumer market you have no chance other wise, well you would not if you were US based. As you come from another country then I have to assume you are able to exploit your own people for cheap labor and ignore all the standards we are held to in the US and yes this will give you an advantage, a very unfair advantage most likely at the expense of your own countrymen. As for the second part of my reply this is as far as I know a US based forum therefore my statement stands as is. If this is in fact a US based forum and it promotes outsourcing jobs at the expense of Americans then I want nothing to do with it, I consider that treason. |
