    Machine recommendations please!

    Hello all.
This is my first post in here. I'm new to CNCzone, and CNC in general so go easy.

I just got a job working for a company that makes stationary boom systems (think excavator arm with giant jackhammer on it), and plate compactors (giant patio plate vibrators). We're looking into getting the equipment to start making all the components in house (hooray for new US jobs!!!).

We need a CNC cutting table, but I'd like unbiased (if possible) pros and cons for plasma vs. oxy, or any other plausible options.

We will also need to drill large diameter (2-4") holes perfectly concentric through both sides of this equipment for pins, flatten surfaces (tolerance .008 over 3'), mill profiles, etc.

Finally, we need to bend large plates (2" thick, maybe 3' long). Whats the trade-off for a CNC vs manual brake press? Accuracy, speed?

So with these three primary processes in mind (cutting, milling/drilling, and bending) does anyone have any suggestions, or good contacts to refer to?

For the milling/drilling, I'm currently in a debate between a horizontal boring mill vs a portable line boring machine + a CNC machining center (I'm for horizontal boring mill to do it all, but willing to swallow my pride if I'm wrong. the ability to win the argument against my boss and CEO of the company would be more than worth the stakes)

Any and all responses are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

    CPaulsen,

I would like to see a machine that can bend 2" thick material, please post a link.

Granted this is is a bit of an exception, but they're out there. From what I'm told, they bend based on the square area between the jaws. ie if a machine is rated to bend 3/4" plate at 7', it can bend 1.5" at 3.5". If I've been told wrong, please let me know. As I stated, I'm no expert, just looking for knowledge

We don't do anything else here but go easy!

Depending on the thickness of material and budget etc, you could also look at Laser for both the shape cutting and the holes.
Trumf is one manuf. you could contact.
