Jeff, you're using G41/G42 for that, right? Also, what did you create the .dxf's in? They're some weird type of polyline that I can't seem to modify or edit in any way. Were they splines? Just curious, thanks.
I cut one panel last night of my Raptor. It is going to be great! I have attached the DXF file for anyone who wants it.
OZZYBEE - Your DXF is not machinable. It was saved in the iso view.
Thanks

I'll have to look around myself and see if I can find a few things to make dxf's out of and post them for for future tech ideas.
will a 2004 dxf work for you? would I need to set a thickness or would a 2d dxf work?
I tooled and machined the TRex.dxf file I posted on a Northwood Router I have at my workplace. I use autocad 2002 and the file was not an iso file.
What Jeff was saying is that the .dxf looks like everything was tilted and when saved, it was projected onto the xy plane. Autocad won't do that when you save in an isometric view, but that's what it look like. Download it and look at it again.Originally Posted by Ozzybee

AutoCAD has a method of using polylines to emulate splines (simple explanation). This is sort of what it did. Older versions of .dxf files didn't support splines, so this was a workaround. The files are fine the way you have them, I just had never seen an entity like those in AutoCAD before. Thanks.Originally Posted by HomeCNC

Home CNC, I have finally cut the Raptor that you submitted. I am having a hard time tryng to work out how all the pieces go 2gether. Do you have a photo?
Please disregard the last request. It took longer to assemble this than it did to cut it (40 minutes).

Looks great ynneb, what material did you cut it out of
Wow Benny, that thing is a monster! I really want to make one of these out of acrylic when I finish my machine...

Hey Benny
I agree you may have gone too far, but it looks great.
You posted a picture of a shark in the first post, I am nealy finished drawing it in Autocad. I should finish it in the next couple of days.
As I haven't finished my router yet I can't test it so it may have problems. I hope not.
BTW I have made it less than 300mm. I thought it was a desk ornament.
I will post it as soon as it is finished in DXF format.
Catch Ya.

Benny,
Turn the tail up on the Raptor. That is the only thing I can see that was not correct. But it does not look bad down as well
Thanks

Nice! I bet you some school or library would pay you a nice little penny for that monster!Originally Posted by ynneb

Well I drew up the shark.
I have included mirrored parts for the other side of the shark so if the material is finished on one side only, the finish will be out on both sides of the model. I have drawn it to be made from 3mm stock and have not allowed any clearance for fit.
If someone uses it please post the Gcode and a picture. Maybe the dxf the G-code and the picture could be included in a zip file.

Good job Phillby, I am sure this will come in handy for someone. ( I dont know if i will be having any 3m sharks hanging from my ceiling.
I donated the two dinos that I cut to my daughters primary school. The kids and teachers went nuts over it. Its a good feeling when you make something and others appreciate it.
I notice the stand is single. You may need to give that some thought so that it will stand by itself.
Good on ya, that's pretty cool. Yeah, it is nice when people appreciate the things we make, innit?Originally Posted by ynneb

I hope that you don't mind, but I have reworked the drawings some so that I can cut them out of alum on my cnc mill. I think that it will look nice on my desk when I am done, and the shark should measure a little over 7" long. The attached drawing is in two layers Outside and Holes. I plan to cut the shark from .125 alum with a .125 end mill, and it is drawn accordingly. The round holes are each also .125. I intend to cut the shark from three seperate 5" by 8" pieces af aluminum plate, and that is why the parts are divided up into three seperate "sheets". Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will have generated the code for Mach2 using Sheetcam, and I could post the code for the three seperate "sheets" when I get it done if anyone else would like it. I will also have to figure out some way of attaching the stand to some sort of base.
Ah !!!!!
I left out 3 parts a support for each of the side fins and the crossmember of the base. See the picture in the first post. Another pin will possibly be needed to hold it all together through all of the pieces except say the smallest red pieces in line with the fin to help hold it together.
You may wish to add these.
Sorry
