Default Trouble shoot water jet not cutting (may be abrasive issue)

Our waterjet has recently gone down and am looking to find help or advice. We replace the Orfice, HP Filter, Nozzel, and Abrasive Line. When running the water jet appears and sounds like it has the abilty to cut and does not clog. The PSI is at 45000 for the water and the abrasive flows consistantly. When moving it onto the material how ever it will not peirce or cut. Was wondering if anyone may have advice as to trouble shooting this issue.

You need to give us some more information to work with here.

    What make/model jet?

What hp pump/intensifier are you running?

What pressure should it be running at? (45k seems kind of low to me.)

What orifice/nozzle combination are you using?

What kind of abrasive are you using?

What are you trying to cut?

Was all of this working properly before it "went down" ... and just what "went"?

Based on the limited information you supplied it sounds like you are running too big an orifice/nozzle combination.

However, it could be that your pump/intensifier has a problem and isn't supplying enough volume/pressure for your usual combination.

Have you recently switched to a cheap abrasive?

"Beach sand" simply does not cut as well as crushed granite.

Is it making any mark on the work piece at all?

    Will it cut something softer?

I once had a work-piece that was a 2" disc of .03" steel with a ceramic coating on one side. I could not cut it ... I couldn't even pierce it.

... but that was 20+ years ago and I only had a 25hp intensifier to work with.

Could be a bad jewel or any of the components not aligned properly. I used to have this problem when using sapphire jewels but hasn't occurs in 3+ years after moving to diamond.

As far as the PSI, that all depends on your machine model and setup. I have a Maxiem 1530 that runs 48k in perfect condition with zero problems but that's what it was designed for.
