    Default Router bit Question

I'm really new at this CNC thing and have read a ton about different router bits.

I will cut mainly wood & plastic. Almost no metal at all.

I've seen a lot of YouTube videos and it looks like straight flute bits produce a cleaner fished product. I am looking for some feedback from guys (& gals) who have actually used them. Seems like manufacturer sales reps push what ever they have the most of.

I will eventually learn what I like best but I sure would appreciate a good start.

    Thanks guys.

    David

If the bit is sharp, you'll usually get a clean cut regardless of the type of tool.
Are you talking about carbide tipped steel shank tools, or solid carbide straight flute bits?

Carbide tipped can work well, and are inexpensive compared to solid carbide. They won't be able to remove material as fast as spiral bits, and can cause tearout in some cases where a spiral may not, but they are perfectly acceptable to use.
Some manufacturers make "cnc" version of carbide tipped straight bits, which have more aggressive geometry.

    Good advice.

I will try to follow it. Can you recommend a possible supplier? I know of none and will have to rely on Google.

Tools Today sells a full line of Amana.

    CMT from Amazon are good.

    Whiteside.

For inexpensive bits, try Yonico from Amazon.
