Indeed! The markforged printers are the ones you are mentioning I believe, very exciting but unfortunately like you said the fact that its filament that is simply layered means its integrity is still not that comparable to your typical methods of manufacturing.

Why not show us the part geometry?
Has anyone here know of TOW placement, ?
We can put any fiber anywhere geometrically possible in all 7 axis.
Wrap fiber and compression mold it, Why not?
Been doing this too long
I am aware of tow placement but not very knowledgeable on it beyond linear placement in large portions. Know any good resources that further explain techniques of it?
Straight Tow, if you where to use this, Hex Tow is ready to use, if your parts are not to big, HexTow Continuous Carbon Fiber | Hexcel

Here is a picture of R&D tow placement
any fiber any where 0 90 +45 -45 any flight contour
This was done last century.

Yeah, could work well as long as you don't cut across the strands with any machining that reduces it to small loose bits in a resin bond.
Come to think of it.......this is a CNC machining forum not a plastic resin composite lay up shop..........where's the CNC component in a molding exercise, apart from making the mold(s) .........and you gotta be really good to make molds, so I su8ppose the op has to start somewhere.
Ian.
Send me a pm with print and I can get you a quote.... I deal in 100% composites from manufacture of the materials to making the product.

I've machined and made more carbon fiber parts I can remember over 15 years in the aircraft business. It's not that hard to work. CF has a mystique that a lot of machinists will probably think it is impossible to machine but that's just because they've never worked it. I'm not able to recommend anyone who can help you make your parts in Florida though. Are there any intern programs with one of the aircraft companies in Florida? I know there's a lot of aircraft manufacturers there and more than likely they would help you out advising working with CF.
I sent you a message regarding your rfq... please reply back soon with a drawing and I can possibly make you a prototype using my material I have on hand.... we are located in st. Louis but I will be in Florida for the next week. St. Pete beach to be exact. If you get me the drawing I can make the part and bring it down with me and meet somewhere. If it works with my material it will work with your as long as your process is correct in regards to layup/winding... but time is critical as I leave for Nashville tomorrow then to florida.
