Phase converter question
Hello!
I have purchases a CNC lathe that is powered by 3phase.
The motor on it is 15HP.
I have 2 pony motors to choose from available to me to make a phase converter from.
option 1 20hp
option 2 40hp
My question is : Would the 20 HP pony motor be enough or should I just go ahead and build it out of the 40 HP?
The converter box for the 40 hp is a bit more expensive ...Money is tight.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Phase converter question
A lathe draws a LOT of power on startup of the spindle ,,, the mass of the 40 hp would help a lot with that ,,,, I ran a 20 hp lathe off a 25hp converter for years and it work ok ,,, it was hell on light bulbs in the shop on hi RPM start ups.

Ahhhh, gotya . the Start up will be the worst part ,huh.
So I should build it out of the 40 hp one.
