Hello
I need to make some parts on my lathe.
The external turning is no problem. But the inner hole with a flat surface is.
The inner diameter is 0.55"
Length of the hole is 2.75"
Small hole at the end is 0.3"
First step is to drill the small 0.3" hole trough.
The hole is too small for a decent boring bar with that length (to get the flat surface)
I can use a bigger drill but that leaves a V shape at the end of the hole and not a flat surface.
Any ideas how to approach this?
1/2" drill then use a 1/2" end long end mill to flatten the end of the hole and boring bar, or perhaps the same end mill in the lathe tool holder to bore out the remainder of the diameter?
Hello, You could make a D-bit or use one of the smaller diameter cutters from a set of 1/2" shank boring cutters. I don't know what type of boring bar holder you have but sleeves are cheaper to buy than make so a single 3/4" holder with a few sleeves to fit different bars is an option for a lathe. Boring heads work just as well on a lathe as a mill too and can be mounted on toolpost or used in the tailstock.
