someone asked earlier for a file on a rocking horse.... thought it would be a fun exercise to play with. so.... this is what I developed in my Rhino cad. it cuts out of less than 1/2 sheet of 3/4" ply and cuts on my machine in about 15 minutes. My grand on went nuts over it. when fitting together it only took a few smacks with a rubber hammer and everything seems pretty tight. I added a two screws on the underside so it cant come apart. have fun cutting. it would be fun to see what others do with this.

    Erik,
Looking at your dxf would the best way to make your rocking horse be to start out with a 4'x4' square, then take your individual pieces and size them to your specs, then nest them within the 4'x4'? thanks

Well.... basically I'm pretty thrifty (cheap) The 4 that I've e cut in the last few days are from the fall off from my biz. I just took the DXF files and pulled out the pieces I could fit in each panel and nested them the best I could and then cut. The dxf file is sized right now for 3/4" plywood for the groves, so you shouldn't have to resize at all. it would be real easy with any cad program to resize for thinner plywood and thus a smaller size rocker. so I guess the answer to your question is it really doesn't make any difference in what size plywood panel you start with. I left the dimensions in the cad file so just use them as references for what size plywood you might need to cut that piece out of.

I would suggest that you round off the ears and the tail of the rocking horse so small children will not injure themselves.
