Thanks for looking at it for me Switcher.

If there was an unbroken line there wouldn't the torch cut it?

Yea, If the line wasn't broke the torch should follow the path just fine.

It's all those broken lines that Corel is trying to close, that is messing with your files.

If 2 line ends cross each other, that is still an open vector, like in the screenshot from my last post (upper left green circle).

That same screenshot shows a small group of stray vector lines, that would create a mess while cutting with a torch, not to mention for every little open vector line (remember I zoomed in 1500%) the torch would keep stricking arcs. With those lines being so small/short it might look like something is wrong with your torch (on/off, etc..).

Thanks again Switcher. Maybe I understand.

One thing that confuses me is that I don't want it to cut there, and if the line was continuous it would. If the intesections were just clean and didn't continue across the overlap of text and art would the problem be solved? When I converted to a dxf file it looks like the image shows problem areas. I don't want to cut the letters free of the long rectangle for example, or the elks nose from the B, or many other similar places.

    Hi Jeff,

Thanks for working on it. Brought it over to the shop, torch will run for about 2.7" from lower left corner and stall in the rectangle. Open dxf file on my Mac doesn't have diagonal lines anymore though. Must be closer to correct than what I posted.

Any advice on different width lines to make it easier to see and edit? Or different color line and background in Corel? Just realized I can type in a zoom value higher than the default 400% it goes to.

Maybe I understand Switcher's advice this way; if a couple of lines intersect, continue and then end, that is broken vector. Not if they intersect, end cleanly there and continue on the other side where elements of sign "overlap." Correct?

I admit my ignorance. Been studying all this for weeks non stop, still lots to learn. Began a couple of months ago knowing nothing about Corel, Windows and everything else involved.

    Thanks again for everyone's help.

    Bill B.

    Bill B,

Try this one out, you have lots of fragments in the file you originally generated.

    Bill B,

I believe this one should finally do the job.

    Sorry for multiple bad attempts.

    Arrow File Troubleshooting

    Looks good now!

Nice team work there Tpsega, Switcher, & jalessi.

Watch especially for those open nodes Bill. (end of 2 lines not exactly joined)

That seemed to be the initial cause of the problem.

Looking forward to a picture of the finished sign.

All the best with the cutting!

    Default braun's sign

Many Thanks again to Tpsega, Switcher, jalessi and Weld Tutor for all the help. Will give the new file a try Monday. I'm on the road.

You all shined a lot of light on how it works.

Bill's file should work for him, it had 6 or 7 duplicate vectors. I removed them, closed the vectors and grouped them and ran it on my router, came out ok.

I had the opportunity to use a plasma cutter yesterday, I won't say which one because it wouldn't be good press for them. Every intricate file I opened looked like Bill's. It took quite a while ( more than I'm willing to take on a regular basis ) to clean up the file in order to use it. I would hope that all plasma cutters are not that hard to use. I can understand why Bill had a hard time with his.

I think I'll just stay with my router and the problems it has, which, by the way are nothing compared to the p c.

No kidding Dave! Cutting software itself seems simple. Getting the content to run it is something that must be learned!

Many thanks again to Jeff and Switcher. I found some double lines or vectors like Dave mentioned. Seemed like I could find them by trying to select with bezier tool; if that didn't work trying to marque select would get the black boxes on either end, hit delete. If that line or an area completely disappears hit undo. If not there was a double line.

Now my problem is file went from 206k to over 1 MB and not visible when I open it in my cutting program. Read somewhere that editing a dxf is bad, should always work from the draw file. Or maybe import export instead of open and save as? Any advice would be appreciated. I would enjoy (actually need to) learn this. Maybe I can be helpful someday to others in my current situation.

    Bill,

I believe all the duplicate vectors are fixed in this file.
