Default Help needed with material selection

    Hello,
Could anyone recommend a steel that won't warp or will warp the least from cutting or machining? I'm building a fixture to hold some sensors for vibration testing and the part in question is roughly 3/4" X 1" X 12" in size. I built something similar a few months ago out of 1018 cold rolled and it turned into a nightmare. Every time I cut one side it would warp like crazy and after finally getting it flat I sent it out to have the cavities cut via wire edm and once again it warped like a banana. I would like to avoid this problem as it took me probably 3 times longer that it should of.

You might try some hot rolled. It has less built in stresses from rolling. The other option would be to normalize it at about 600° F for a few hours (a day maybe?), that may relieve the internal stresses.
