Those are great! Any for sale? Do we have a picture of your laser setup?
here's some pics of animals I've made with the laser.
none of the pics are that good.
the fish is made of 30 or so segments, riveted together like a bicycle chain. its fully articulated and produces and nice smooth movement.

I'm lazy, I'm only "sparking" when the EDM is running....
Owen, You have some real nice work.
I am especially interested in your laser. Your web site is veru nicely put together.
You mention on your web site to contact uou for the Flounder plane codes.
I would love to try cutting them out for me son. Is it easy to build once cut out?
Also what is a good balsa alternative? ( Man made alternative)
Thanks for sharing your pictures of the stuff you have made.
here are two files
http://www.nilno.com/flounder/flat.dxf
http://www.nilno.com/flounder/plans.dxf
the first are the plans for the airplane itself. its laid out like most plane plans.
the second are all the parts that you'd need to cut out the parts on balsa. there are several sheets of balsa in the one file. you have to break them up into individual files and convert them to g-codes.
It probably doesnt make sense for me to send you the actual g-codes or driving the motors for your system, its best if you can learn the software to do that yourself. I can convert it to a couple other file formats if you like.
user beware: this is not a plane to build, or fly, for the first time. I've crashed a lot of planes, its very unfullfilling. if you havent flown before you'll need to work with a trainer.
there is a site with all the bells and whistles of the cnczone, called the e-zone, that I encourage you to check out.

sorry I got the order wrong. The first plan are the flat parts, the second is the full-blown plan.
regarding alternatives to balsa: balsa is a really great material. There are some people that use carbon fiber, and others that use fibreglass. The military UAVs are made of kevlar. I dont recommend using any of them.
by the way, if you want a laser cut trainer, I have one for sale. Its still mostly in the box. I just assembled the wing, nothing else.

oh, I was thinking about trainers and I remember that people make planes out of EPP foam.
this is an incredible trainer.

I literally flew it directly between two hay bales both wings smacked the bales and it did not break.
