Default So close to geeting down to business - looking for assistance.

Below are pictures of my machine, a 40w laser engraver, its board, and the problem I am having. Does anyone know if the problem is with the software or the hardware? I have played with all the software controles that I understand. I have reinstalled the software (LaserDRW) multiple times. If you have any ideas or know of someone that I can contact for assistance it would be greatly appreciated. I am located in San Marcos, TX USA.

First you must check mirrors and lens aligment.

I agree with Miketola. I bet it's nothing to do with the software. See what a light "test button" spot on paper laying under the lens does. If you get two spots- maybe a cracked lens or mirror?

EDIT: Seems someone with this problem had a reflection in the air assist nozzle? Not sure about that but sticks in my head.

Once more: That is the good machine IMHO. LaserDRW is usable. If you don't have any advanced (expensive) drawing software download paint.net and save bitmaps. Bring the bitbaps in to DRW via the "graph" tab in DRW. Also if your attempting to draw in DRW make "white solid objects to move over where you want to erase stuff. Also remember you can move objects to "the front" via right clicking you mouse on an object and click "move to front". Tedious but doable for quick drawings.

You need tape and more tape. Check mirrors aligment. Remove also lens it,s almost everytime upside down. After aligment you must glean mirrors and lens.

It was the cutting mirror or the last mirror the laser hits.

If you cut alot 50% power and maybe more. Then you must change all mirrors to better. K9 mirrors are cheap and **** quality.

K9 Mirror:*Close to worthless gold coated glass (likely from re-melted milk bottles), anything much over 35 watts and a spec of dust and they break. Designed for the "Hobby" series K40 lasers.
Si Mirror:*Silicon Glass Gold coated, great reflective index, not good for anything 80 watts or over (not too hot on 60 watts either)
Mo Mirror:*Molybdenum, very tough but the lowest reflective index, great if you miss cleaning or have a habit of dropping mirrors or if you have over 80 watt sources.

Sherri! What kind of help you need?

miketola thank you for getting the complete story down in one post. I knew there were differences but not why. Now I do. Time to go mirror shopping. I would like to get you and herby's take on upgrading mirror holders. Any advantage to going bigger on mirrors and holders? Being the lazy bugger I am I guess I need Mo but I like the idea Si has the best index! From radio work I know it's often not about power as much as it is how you deliver it. Not much point in heating up a bunch of optics with 20 watts of power.

Initially, it is important to examine the alignment of mirrors.
