Hi All,
We have a laserpro explorer at our school which is approx. 8 years old and is used extensively. We were doing some engraving last week when we noticed that the X axis engraving lines were wandering. I carried out some tests as hopefully you can see in the attached photo. The first test was two letter I’s approx 450mm apart at 30 % speed. The result was an ‘I’ that was nearly 45 degrees due to the X movement being out. Trying to move the head back to the home 0,0 position after it finished the cut (which is usually top left corner) resulted in the laser ending up approx. 200mm away on the X axis while the Y axis was fine . The second test was 3 I’s at vary speeds 30, 20 and 10 %. As the speed were reduced the shape became better.
Having read other people similar experiences it sounds like the X decoder may have dust in it ? We have checked the belts for wear and tension also the tightness of the end spline on the motor all of which are fine and the head movement along the X rail is smooth. There is no movement in the bed or material.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you in advance.
Hi,
Does the mirror (reflecting mirror and focus lens inside barrel ) not fasten well ? it is possibly loosed as you used for such long time.
So when you do fast engrave,it will shaking inside and lead twist shape like you did .I once did such thing and figured it out by this reason.
Hello,
Judging from the picture you posted it is not a problem with the belt or pulley as the problem would persist at any speed if that was the case. There are three things that I think it could be. Firstly on each mirror mount there is a thumb screw, make sure this screw is tight on each mirror otherwise the mirror will shift as the axis moves at high speed. Secondly, it could be the X motor encoder. In order to clean the encoder, you must first remove the motor, then remove the black plastic case at the rear of the motor. You will then have access to the encoder which is a circular plastic disc with tiny lines all along the outside. Be very careful while cleaning it, as any scratches can render it non-functional. Lastly it could be an issue with the mainboard, which is the worst case scenario, as there isn't anything you can do other than order a replacement board.
I would recommend first check the mirrors, then try updating the firmware, then check the encoder.
Have checked the mirrors and re-installed the firmware today but still have the same problem, so I am hoping its the X motor rather than the board will have a look tomorrow.
