Default Where to buy a 60 watt co2 laser and supply

    Hi,

Those who have purchased co2 lasers please help me decide the best place to buy a 60 watt laser. It seems there are a number of Chinese dealers and I don't know who to go through

    Thank You

From reading the woe's of others - lack of communication - import taxes - customs clearance - damage replacements etc etc (some have had success though) the best bet seems to be going through a dealer located in your own country.

Ray Scott of Rabbit Laser USA Rabbit Laser - USA is a good place to start. Although you may appear to pay more at the start it may well be a lot cheaper in the end.

    That's my 2c worth.

They may well be OK but parting with real money to businesses that decline to provide their full address always bugs me.

What do you guys think, is it risky ?

    AustinT,

Are you looking for a complete system, or just the tube and PSU?

I agree with Tweakie on the system, check out Rabbit Laser - USA or CO2 Laser Engravers but if you just want the parts I would try Cole Technology Co.,Ltd. (ebay user: CNCOLETECH items - Get great deals on Laser tube 40w,50w,60w,80w, Roland items on eBay Stores!).

I have another question for the on off delay times for a power supply. If the laser / supply has a delay time of 1ms how do laser engravers raster so quickly? It seems that at 300 dpi with this delay the machine could only raster a little over 3 inches / second .

3 ips isn't that slow, but yes it can do better.

The response time of <1mS is from OFF to full power, in operation the tube isn't shut completely off. The transition from the 'tickle' state to ON is extremely fast.

Ok that makes more sense. I know some machines run up to 50+ inches / second and i did not see how this would be possible with the delay time

Another question please. I have been reading through the old posts in the forum and some say not to get to powerfull of a laser for engraving . Will a 60 watt laser work ok ? Would higher watts allow a faster raster speed?

    Thank you

It depends what material you are engraving but 60W should be about right, and has enough power for cutting reasonable thickness too.

In theory more power would allow faster engraving but at some point you reach the mechanical limits, and some materials just don't do well with higher power and shorter time even though the energy is the same.

    just wanted to report.

I ended up buying the laser from ColeTech. I also bought the optics , laser head, red laser, and power supply. All of the parts are perfect. The laser was well wrapped along with all of the other parts. I found other dealers that were slightly cheaper but coleTech has a reputation of replacing broken tubes that are damaged by the mail. To me this was worth the small difference in price.
    Thank you ColeTech

Did you buy the 60 watt laser from Coletech?
I think they would be a good all round size for a first laser and will give you good speed and versatility. My 30 watt laser just seems a bit lacking for a lot of things.
I have just upgraded to a 100 watt laser tube from Coletech and can't wait to see what it can and can't do. Apparently if you run this 100 watter at about 4ma then it can engrave very good. I will wait and see when I get my controller back.

I am not completely useless.......I can always serve as a BAD example.

    Hi,

Yes the 60 watt laser is from Cole Tech . You will have to keep in touch on the engraving ability of the 100 watt. Did you purchase the long life tube? For high speed engraving , how fast can we go with the Chinese Power supplies ( switching times) ?

    Hello to all,

I would be happy to sell a set of 60 watt power supply and laser tube. Yes.. we will try to be very competitive to current prices. I will even give you the circuit schematic for how to connect to your Mach3 CNC or other design.

We recently designed a Technician's test tool for working with the power supplies. The power supply is controlled by analog signal. This can be a simple potentiometer or other kit similar to used to control the spindle speed with analog signal. All control signals are 5 volt level. Normally are pull to gnd for activate the signal. No extra voltage is needed to run the power supply. Green phoenix connectors are included.

Please feel free to call us.

We also sell 60w laser tubes and power supplies. Not all tubes/supplies are the same. We provide you ones with the highest performance and used in our machines. If you buy a cheap power supply or one with the wrong gas mix your switching time will be extremely slow. We test all our tubes with photodetectors capable of resolving 5MHz.

We build our own USB control electronics, motor drivers and write our own device drivers for Windows. Who do you want to buy from?

Someone that just imports lasers and knows nothing about the internals or someone that knows how fast the power supply can switch down to 10ns?

Call us at (702) 482-8594. All items ship from our warehouse in Las Vegas, NV.

We also will give you the best prices on any LaserCut 5.3 lasers in addition to our own control electronics.

For our 60w professional models, ask your dealer if they provide the following:
-red dot with beam combiner (not side mounted)
    -motorized Z table
    -autofocus induction sensor
-precision ground linear ways with caged ball bearings (not round bearings, not plastic wheels)
-custom written Windows print drivers that are compatible with Leetro's MPC6515

For our 40w hobby models, we provide the best software hands down. Fully written in the USA and able to print from any application in Windows.

We beat any other USA dealer at least by 20% if not 50%.

    Default follow-up to capabilities

I gotta answer this one since it follows my posting and somewhat bashes other US sellers of Chinese equipment. I went to China... I know what is available as the "Best" of Chinese products. We use the best that is available to us.

We are constantly purchasing tools and equipment for continued growth in testing and diagnostics. We agree that not all products are the same. We want to continue to provide top quality laser equipment.. and getting better.

We don't build our own electronics. We want the customer to have future options of where to purchase replacement parts for if an electrical storm destroys their machine or any component. Most replacement parts can be ordered from a variety of US resources like: Circuit Specialists.com, Digikey, Newark, McMaster Carr, Jameco... and more. The exception is the motion controller MPC6515.. which can be purchased from most any supplier of Chinese laser parts. Don't lock yourself into a single source of repair parts.

I have a few engineering degrees and I specialized in automated machinery for over ten years. Carole has a Mechanical Engineering degree. Tony has a Mechanical Engineering degree. You don't need an engineering degree to know what is working and what is not. It really helps to have someone that understands your situation and willing to help you build your product.

    Motorized Z-axis.. yes
precision ground linear ways and .. caged bearings .. yes
custom written Windows print driver.. Working on it, but would be nicer if you shared that. :-)
Autofocus inductive sensor.. not accurate for materials of different nature (wood, plastic, metal)
Red-dot pointer.. side mounted or injected at top of focal head.

I would love to see any company beat Rabbit Laser USA web prices by 20% to every customer. I know the costs of dealing with these machines: importing, sale efforts, deliveries, warranty, and a small profit margin.

    40 watt 6040 (16x24 inches) $5900
    60 watt 9060 (24x36 inches) $7800
    80 watt 1290 (36x48 inches) $8700

To all customers.. Do your proper research. Get the best product for your money.

Not only do we go to China several times a year, we also go to Germany and Israel as well as Boston and Santa Clara, CA which have the best in the world specific components we need. Some members of our staff speak Chinese and German to negotiate the lowest possible price. Several of our staff have degrees from MIT, Caltech, USC and Stanford.

Rabbit lasers does not make their own parts. They are one of several hundred integrators in China. We have also visited Rabbit in Jinan and know they do not have glass fabrication of the laser tubes nor assembly of the power supplies. As with any integrator, they will mark up the prices 20%-100% on identical components. We know the all companies that MAKE the parts and buy directly from the source.

Our 60w laser with the following features is under $5k which is 35% lower than your prices:
    -Leetro MP6515 (standard equipment)
-beam combiner (this is an expensive optic, nearly all the cheap lasers give you a side mount)
-linear guides with caged ball bearings
-autofocus sensor that works on any material with the included metal stop (this is an expensive sensor)
-custom Windows driver compatible with LaserCut 5.3 (no one else gives you this). Two copy systems with MPC6515 will have identical software except we provide the print driver. How do you get vector text out of MS Word to your laser without a print driver? You can't.

In addition we bet you charge extra for the beam combiner + autofocus sensor.

The electronics and specifically cards like the Leetro MPC6515 are the most difficult part to get/replace. We will swap out or advance replace any MPC6515 that goes down within 2 days with an instock USA replacement. Other sellers will send your card to China for replacement and ask you to pay for the huge shipping charge. Call the manufacturer Leetro yourself and try to get a replacement advanced to you free of charge (good luck). Ask your seller if they will ship you in stock USA parts out of their demo units if your part goes down.

This thread is about supplying laser tubes and power supplies. We can supply the best laser tubes and power supplies.

When you buy a laser tube/power supply, look at the power and the length as well as the switching time.

A standard 60w laser tube is 1200mm in length with glued ends to hold the mirrors. The best 80w laser tubes are the SAME length, 1200mm but have metal to glass transitions with no glue. The lifetime on a good tube is in excess of 10,000 hours. A cheap copy tube with glued ends can have a bad CO2 mix which is 10x slower switching than the best tubes as measured by our photodiode detectors using a 100MHz oscilloscope and a precision function generator.

Our components are better. Our prices are lower. Our knowledge is better.

Shop around and we know you will come back to us.
