Default Need help routing/ reaching deep pockets.

    Hi experts,

I need some help. I am have been doing some 2D work with my router and I am okay but I feel a little limited when doing 3D because of the bit selections I am familiar with.
For instance, all I am able to find is bit that are 1.5" overall lenght, which by the time I put them in my router spindle I only have about .75" or clearance.

I am trying to router a 3d shape that had depths of about 1" or something slightly longer. How is this achieved without crashing into the stock with my collect? Are there longer tools and I am just not looking in the right places? Correct me if I am wrong, but I am looking for ball end mills and I also need them to be quite small in diameter at least for the finish passes. I am talking about 0.125" dia.

    Thanks

    Try Onsrud,

Those 1.5" length sound chinese, and if so, they skimp on the length some compared to other brands made in NA. I can definitely cut more than 1" with onsrud bits. Not sure how common the ball end would be though.

The other, probably more flexible, option is to look for end mills rather than router bits.
