maybe you have an chinese pc - CE
the tramming is as silent as it was when it was recorded
the milling one have noise in them from the spindle motor. i am always stunned how silent the machine is it will be also one of the advertising points ,.. thank you for watching
i hope i can switch to stepper and feedback before of my vacation
if not the other test videos will take some time
And i also prepare the atc stuff ,..

about motion i use Steppers and Linuxcnc (in that setup )

I liked the accuracy test. It looks as though the backlash is no more than 15 - 20 microns - would that be right?

    Cheers

    Hi roger
yes this is what i measured i tried that on all axis (so i have more videos ) the only thing was that at high speed in Z axis (because of heavy motor ) it is more
And if more preciseness is needed there are even better spindles available (5 times the price ) if that is needed ,..
So i do now search for max speed on stepper controller using lot board

nest step is using IONI board and lpt and do same run again
then i use the feedback option where i expect even better results !! in high speed
and then i use closed loop in same system

and the last 2 option i do with mechanical maximum speed coming from an FPGA board ,..
when i have measured and confirmed that values i will be very happy

i did now 2mm deep 3 wide cuts like G1 X 160 F160 in millimeters whith no issue and i wonder why the machine is so quiet ,,.

so i am in happy testing mode

    What controller are you using?

Bigger errors on the Z axis with servo systems are common, even when the weight of the motor has been balanced with a gas spring (mine is). My theory is that the longer run of cable from the control to the Z-axis motor and Z axis encoder, plus the spindle power cable which almost always runs beside the Z axis encoder cable, means that there is more noise on the Z axis encoder signals, so you actually get some drift on the Z axis as well.

Yeah, I am deep into testing and screening right now! I want zero drift.

I would imagine that a stepper drive on the Z axis might not have that problem. Hum ...

    Cheers

    Hi G59 controller
i use in that test Linuxcnc and 3BEast controller that is why the steppers are so quiet. But this solution is just for reverence and will only be an extra item for hobby type of users (you save 2 Relais and it is a little cheaper.
as standard i will use granite devices IONI which are awesome where i can give customers the full range up to servos ,..
So next test is IONI in Hobby config means using the LPT board
then i use FPGA card to control the IONI which means i can go at the physical limit of the steppers transmission and so on till the machine tilts -

hay Tkamsker I think something is wrong with your machine it`s to quite LOL, nice work.

I see that you are using a arduino for your pendent just a suggestion try a teenys board, I use them now they are cheaper, faster and you can use the arduino library on them, I am going to be doing a pendent with one next year, its for a different cam program to what you are using.

one more question what would the prices be for a hobby machine

    Hi,
about the pendant i did test 3 ways od doing it and i have teensy but even if it is cheaper i do not want to be dependent on the teensy builder , i think of selling it as a kit (software and PCB ) and you print your own handheld stuff but that will be in Q4 earliest.

About price i did the calculation in march where a hobby machine includes
Machine as you see it in the video (but with the standard enclosure not my full cover )
means Machine 2,2kw, Toshiba VFD, Linear bearings, quality ball screw, metal Stand, Basic Standard cover , 3 Steppers mounted an tested controller 5A pc, 19,5" non touch screen , 9k Euro incl 20% Austrian VAT which you might get back
the Standard version is 500 euro more
The pro stand will be around 1000 Euro
Then feedback or closed loop will add 200 Eruo to the Standard and so on
just to give you and feeling
But the plan is to have Homepage avail end of September and some prices have changed so i am sure that i can offer even cheaper than that but that i have calculate first. (next step is my vacation -
The plan is also to have an own section for that machine here in the forum but this i will do when my testing is successful done to have measured numbers.

    hi daniellyall
i was a little bit quiet but now this week we launched the homepage so the prices are answered here Thojomech smart cnc leistbare cnc maschinen
i am now working on an 5th axis where ei´ll do an thread about it. so with that page i´ll close that thread you will notice where and how i learned a lot
it would be nice if you check out the page and tell me what you think
    thx thomas kamsker
Ps: And of course there will be some typos and little hiccups but i did decent testing the last 3 months
happy to be back in the workshop -

    Hi Tkamsker,
What are your final thoughts of the General Mechatronics GM6 PCI - LinuxCNC based Motion Control Card? Would you use it again? I can't find much on the internet. Actually, I think your project is the only one I could find that uses it.
I didn't see many photos of your connections to the PCI card. Did you use any of the axis modules shown below?
    VMC Mill Discussion-gm-jpg

I assume you did something like this set-up.
    VMC Mill Discussion-gm2-jpg

The CAN-bus setup looks slick since it wouldn't save a bunch of wiring.

Was it easy to tune the Granite drives?
I see the motor drivers you used are being phased out.

Was also considering CSMIO/A with Mach, but the GM6 has caught my interest.

    Cheers,
    Robin

Edit: Sorry for posting here. I had too many tabs open and meant to post to this thread: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/bridge...eferrerid=3842.

hi no worries when you look at my new homepag thojomech.com you see i use the gm card as standard for feedback and servo drive (i have to improve the text what i do right now ) the granite cards are really easy to use (i found some typis and mistakes in the ioni wiki but they fixed it fast ) the stepper feedback config works verry nice
you can really play with the config a lot so depending on your project i would recommend that setup

Tkamsker just had a look at you sight it is not converting all parts to english some panels don't change, it don't matter at this stage Google fixes that. a few spelling mistakes but you can understand everything so nothing to worry about. your machine do look good, but the money conversion at this stage makes it very competitive with tormach or novakon hope it stay that way
