Sir,
What do you want the THC to do? If you need initial height sensing, it is somewhat complicated; if you just need auto height control during cutting, the system is simpler. I made such a system 18 years ago.

Jack C.
Gentlemen is there a DIY out there to build my own thc for my plasma table?
Really don't have the $$$ for the commercial units
Any help or direction is greatly appreciated

Sir I would be thrilled with height sensing during the cutting.
or better still - post it here for everyone :-)
Gentlemen:
Attached are pictures, a schematic, and explanation of a torch height control made some time ago.

Thanks Jack

I bought this one for $350.00. it works o.k. for bigger pieces. it doesn't have IHS.
Gentlemen:
Attached is a picture of the THC schematic with one correction, added a connection to -12V not shown earlier. Please note the attached file with the pictures.

I was unable to get a decent picture off this most recent post. Email me for a good JPEG.

I built one using the schematics in the Mach user manual. It's been working great for several months. It should be adaptable to any machine that already has Z axis control.

Here's the direct link to the document from the Mach Support site:
ftp://machsupport.com/Docs/Using3Mill.pdf
Section 12.2 is called Torch Height Control Interface and contains schematics by Tom Caudle.
Hi Jon,
I saw THC-circuit ( section12.2) on Mach manaul same as you but I didn't understand how to link with plasma machine. I don't know what is input or output for this circuit. I need to use this circuit with the 1000 hypertherm. I don't know how to start. I am not good at electronic circuit. If you can help me,I will appreciate you

I don't mean to be rude, but if you're not good with electronics and you can't figure it out from the schematics then you should probably not be building your own THC.
Jon,
Could you do the hardware board from schematics? If you are ready to do,pls advise me for this price.
Mongkol
The desire to have something cheap does not necessarily translate into the ability to build it.
It's getting to be a harder decision to build or buy with the introduction of our New MP3000 base controller that can be upgraded with a fully functional Digital Torch Height Control (3 generations newer than the circuit I gave to Art for the MACH manual) It's priced competitively with the alternative of a separate Breakout Board and Analog THC, and it only uses one parallel port and one serial port for everything.
Plug-in DTHC Module:
Here are screen shots of our custom MACH screen for the new DTHC and a shot of the CUT PROFILE popup that has definable parameters for doing precision cutting.
