Default Failed to get LinuxCNC functional... Where do I go from here?

After 3 days of smashing my head into the keyboard, I am giving up on LinuxCNC. Where do I go from here?

    Back story:
After 10+ years with Mach3, and a few years with a SmoothStepper I figured I would go with something different on my next CNC. I sold off my old CNC, including software. As I am a Linux admin by day, I figured LinuxCNC would be a natural choice. I even picked up a Mesa AnythingIO 7i92 card. I started off with the LinuxCNC ISO based on Debian Wheeze, but that failed do to drivers. Did a clean install of Debian Jessie. Turns out there is no RT kernel for Jessie, so I found my self compiling a custom 4.4 RT kernel. After alot of work I got a single axis to move. Figured it would just be tweaking a few more setting and everything would work. No. 2 days later I have ripped out most my hair and gave up on LinuxCNC. I can see where LinuxCNC has an amazing amount of power, but it is also amazingly complex!

Now what? I could head back to Mach3/4 with a motion controller, but that's an expensive proposition (Windows 10 Pro, Mach4, ESS. $500+). Are there any other solid options out there?

Just for reference I do a lot of complex 3D routing with large, million line g-code files. Most of my cut are measured in hours running at 250ipm+. RC airplanes have some complex curves. :-)

Maybe if you wouldn't. Be a Linux admin you would have followed the howto on a fresh harddisk anf would be milling by now ? We use standard itx motherboards for our machines normal with lpt support and if necessary we do mesa cards ,. So maybe you give it a try and pretend beeing a normal user ,..

A lot of former Mach3 users are moving to UCCNC.

Have you asked for help either here on the LinuxCNC forum, the LinuxCNC mailing list or the LinuxCNC forum on the LinuxCNC web site?

If you follow the guidelines then I'd expect that everything should set up normally.
Did you use stepconfig or PnPconf?
Did you use a desktop pc?
