I've seen pictures of the inside of high priced probes as well as hundreds of DIY probes. The DIY stuff for the most part does a good job copying the Renishaw original patented design. The complaint I hear about DIY or even low priced commercial units is longevity of accuracy or even working.
One big difference is that the better units, that use electrical continuity, use a fluid inside described as a lubricant. I suppose that it is a lubricant as well as an anti-corrosive.
However most oils are non-conductive so I'm thinking they would impede continuity. On the other hand a totally conductive fluid might prevent breaking continuity.
So, I'm looking for some smart people to enlighten me on what would work in my own DIY probe.
Thanks,
Ozzie
