As a youngster I had both my Father and Grandfather rolling with laughter on this very subject once I learned this little detail. Now mind you, I was only about 12 years old.
I had 2 small dc motors I tore out of a race car to play around with a 9v battery. I took the two motors and a pen filler and blew out the ink to create a shaft coupler. I figured if I connected the shafts and motor wires and spun the coupler, I could generate enough power to have the generator run the driver. When I could not get it to function I tried another Bigger motor for the generator. Nothing seemed to work.
That is when I took it to my Father.....and learned a valuable lesson in negative coefficients of energy and perpetual motion!
If only the darn thing would have worked!
