G320 E-stop setup

I have an x3 setup with servos. I have the 3 e-stops on the machine all setup through a c10 break out board. I was moving some cables around the other day, and had a runaway. The encoder cable had a cold solder joint which broke. The servo took off when I reset hit the switch, out of habit I went for the e-stop, which due to the way I have it wired did not stop the servo. So I had the opportunity to learn a new skill, how to reload a ball nut. Would I be better off running the e-stop through the gecko reset switch, which would at least disable the motor? I believe this would leave the motor coasting so it is not ideal. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

I use this exact setup with my gecko g320s. The only issue I had was I was burning through relays when the estop was hit. The sudden dump of power melted the contact in the relay. I was using a 15A relay.

I ended up having to purchase a DC-DC 40A Solid State relay and Ive had trouble free estops and shutdowns ever since.

AC rated relays will just burn up.

Thanks for the reply. That whole circuit thing isjust a bit over my head. If there is a spot where I could find a parts list and a and example of it being assembled sign me up. If not, where do you go to purchase something like that that just needs to be wired up.

Thanks,
Tom

Well its really quite easy to build, I made mine for around $80, If you are not comfortable making your own, you could always get something like this: http://www.aree.com/gecko/gercr2/index.html

The GERC, It has the estop, relays and resistors already on a circuit board, and it provides several other handy features like enabling and disabling single drives and proper fault control.

I believe they sell it in a kit where you have to source certain parts yourself or the entire thing ready to go.

I have not bought this or even know how well it works, I just remember seeing it in my CNC travels and bookmarked it for future upgrades to my machine.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
