first try at servos can't get it to run, bench testing

Here is what I'm running: Gecko 340 drive with 10x jumper, Lambda jfs 1500-48 ps http://www.lambdapower.com/ftp/Manua...500_a.PDF,dell 600mhz optiplex gx1 pc, the cheap clifton servo motor with this encoder encoder help, cncpro. I have the limit, gain and damp set to the instructions base setting. I'm wiring my own printer port end from radio shack. I have pin 2 (X dir) and pin 3 (X step) and set it that way in cncpro, 5v coming from an extra connector from the computer's ps. When I power it up the fault light comes on then goes off like its suppose to and if I touch the motor it feels like its bouncing back and fourth, before I had the motor hooked up backwards and it would startfault start fault and so on, term.5 is still hooked up to term.7. From this I guess the encoder is working. Could the settings in cncpro be that far off that when I use the jog the motor doesn't do anything not even turn on the fault or do I have to do something with the gain and damp? I don't have a scope to check it. Thanks!

I email them a while back as well, about a pre-sales question, and never got a response. I wonder if they are out of town or if something else is going on.

Give it time though, I am sure some of the geniuses on here will have some ideas.

    gv71,

Did you follow all the steps in the manual for the 340's? It's not unusual for Servos to feel like they are hunting.

Also if you followed all the steps correctly check the signal levels of your step & direction pins coming from your PC....

He's out of town yesterday until Tuesday or Wednseday, according to a messagfe he posted on his Yahoo group. I personally would try giving him a call.

OOPS let me remove my foot. I was just looking for things to start trouble shooting. I am going to try my computer that I run my stepper controlled mill that uses cncpro, I know that one works, I don't think its getting a signal from the computer. The bouncing I was talking about was that it felt as if it was bouncing between encoder edges like it says in the manual. The one thing I was worried about was the encoder as it came off a pancake motor and there is no real specs on it. I didn't know if I would have to use an outside ps.

If you want to email it to me, I would be willing to host it - or at last watch it a half-dozen times.

rechecked all the wires, followed the instructions and hooked it up to the other computer and still nothing. The only time I can get the motor to do anything is to mess with the gain and damp and the motor will start jumping around.

I'll see if I can find that clip or I'll download a new one how long can it be for you to host it.

It will only take a few seconds to throw it up on my server. If it isn't huge, I can leave it up there for a while.
