Hi Everybody. I am bench testing my first setup using Keling 381oz 4wire steppers and a G540. The PSU is a 48v 7.3A switching power supply. When idle the steppers make quite a wide spectrum of different noises. Sometimes I hear a high pitch squeal (chirping) other times I hear a low frequency hum. They also like to vibrate slightly. There is no change if the G540 is plugged into the computer or not. Is this normal? Thanks. |

| Well, there is no power capacitor per say, it's a switching PSU. The PSU is a MeanWell authentic. However the power leads were 31cm and I lowered them down to 20cm for good measure which produced no difference. After getting information from another thread it appears that a little motor noise at idle is nothing to be concerned about, considering the motors still are energized at 70% power, but I am still not 100% sure.

| If it is an early version there was a minor problem in that there was some current running around and making the motors hiss. This applies to the early G250/251 and I think the early G540 but I am not certain. The fix is simple but I don't remember where I saw this and I have yet to do it to my machine but IIRC it was just a resistor to be added by the user. The newer ones have had the problem fixed. Mariss has a nice write up of it somewhere. Sorry I don't have all the info but the mind is in Jello mode tonight. Mike
