how is G540 for 2514 K2cnc

I recently bought a K2 cnc 2514 machine.

I'm planning one of those Kelling g540 cnc kits:

G540 3 axis package (One G540 + Three
KL23H284-35-4B (1/4” Dual shaft with a flat) 387 oz-in + one KL-350-
48 48V/7.3A 115V /230V power supply: $494.95

How is G540 compared to the hobby grade boards like hobby cnc ,xylotex, probotix etc...

Should I invest in a more powerful Psu? 48v/7.3A seems quite powerful for those 387oz-in steppers but I'm not sure.

Thanks in advance ...

Hi RL!

The G540 is head and shoulders above everything at or below its price range.

Read this and get a better idea of how to size motors/PSU:

The 387 motors are all right, but 381s are a little better. Here's what I recommend:

Your recommendation is nearly what I choose. Thanks a lot.

Why 381's are better then 387's? I can't seem to find the torque speed curve for 381.

How about 425or 495 steppers ?

One more think is there any other place selling switching psu for a reasonable price. 48v7.3A psu for 59$ is fine but the 12.5A version is for 140 % which seems a little bit high for that output.

I read that explanation about gecko outputting 50V and 381 run optimum at 50v , makes sense. However I have seen lots of variations. Kelling sells 380, 382 oz nema 23's and there are no torque curves for those steppers. Is there and accurate way to approximate the optimum voltage from the specs of the steppers?

Thanks

Buy me a Beer?

Optimum voltage = 32 times the square root of the motors inductance.

540 looks like a interesting unit.

Hi BTA. Welcome to the Zone!

Of course they are G250s, but the combo of 250s with the electronics of G540 makes them unkillable and the equivalent of G203Vs except lower Volt/Amp.(And price) Hence I call them "JUNIOR" G203Vs. The G250 by itself is not nearly as good.

Thanks for pointing this out. I will have to make that statement more clear in the website.

Thank you for the welcome. Yes very close to a 203V and an exceptional value!

Ok, My machie arrived and it looks good.

I didn't have internet for the last 3 weeks(I'm still quite angry about it ) and there were the holidays so I couldn't buy the driver, steppers yet.

Now I am going to buy them.

First the cables:

Thinking of a male to male, point to point connected 6ft parallel cable. This is easy to find.

- For the cable to the motors, I am unsure. How long should they be? If someone can point me an internet link for affordable suitable cables it would be good(preferably the db9 male connector already attached).

- I was thinking if I should go for a 12.5A psu. Even though I'm not planning to use 4 steppers I wanted to connect the optimum source for G540 in case I use it on a 4 stepper system. The problem is while 48V 7.5A psu is around 59$, 48V 12.5A is listed for 149$ (nearly 3 times the price for less then 2 times the power, doesn't make sense)...

BTW I purshased an old Dell p4 2.8ghz from ebay(I'll fix a second hand cheap lcd to it) to use with my cnc instead of using an add on pci parallel port card. I hope everything will be fine...
