I've had some problems making the motors do sensible things in mach3, so quickly wanted to try ubuntu + emc on my thinkpad t61. Does anyone have an emc configuration I could use? Thanks! [I have to say I'm really unimpressed with ubuntu: it destroyed something on the first laptop I tried to install it on, and now nothing will boot. I get the well known "grub 18 error" but unfortunately the main fixes don't seem applicable.] |

| Hi Guys, Go and download the latest version of Ubuntu and EMC2. It has a set up wizard where you can choose to use G540 right out. It is very easy. However, I ran into a problem while trying to use an IBM notebook with EMC. It didn't have IPP mode for parallel port. And therefore, it didn't work. Wachara C. |

| i also use this combo and it has been good for a whlie but i soon realised that you really do need the hardy heron 8.08 with emc2.3 you will find it has a good setting for the g540 with timings of 1000 2000 200 200 the dapper drake install comes with EMC2.2 and an option the upgrade personally hardyheron was working well for me on a hyperthreading P4 with SMI disabled. and when it came time to upgrade it couldn't re disable SMI so ihad to downgrade to a P3 and dapperdrake.. (it wouldn't support hardy, not enough ram) but i believe i have a more stable system. |
