I'm running through the G320 setup procedure, and I'm at the point where I hook up my meter to the test points inside the drive, and spin the motor by hand. The voltage is supposed to go from 5v to 0.4v in one direction, and 5v to 9.6v in the other direction. Mine starts at around 5.12v, and only goes down, regardless of the direction I turn the motor. When it gets down to 0.4v or so, it does fault out and reset to 5v like it should. Do I have the encoder screwed up? Something else? When I tried to run the motor, as soon as I'd power up the drive, the motor would take off in one direction for 30 sec or so, slow down and then take off in the other direction. This is with no step or direction connected. The motor is on the floor and not on the lead screw, so no crashes or anthing like that. My encoder is a BEI Mod H29E-SB-1000-ABZ-7406R-LED-SM18-S. That denotes 1000 pulses per revolution, which I THINK means it is a 250 line encoder. Is that right? |

Ok! Call off the dogs. My problem was I did not have the 5v neutral for my external encoder power supply attached to Term. 6 (Enc -) on the Gecko. So with that done the gecko is now tracking both positive and negative error. As it turns out it does look like I have a 1000 line encoder. I figured that to get from 5v to 0.4v in 0.04v increments that is about 115 steps. I made the drive fault and reset 8 times while turning the motor 90 degrees, so that means 115*8*4=3680 pulses per rev, which is probably actually 4000. Wow, 1000 line encoder. That is going to hurt my max speed. Maybe I need to go the the G340's. |
