Humming from Gecko Drive ?

Are Geckodrive typically quite compared to other low end drives?

From what I have read, the motors will hum with the Hobbycnc stuff.

I would think all stepper motors would hum.

Thanks.

Then you would be thinking wrong.:-) The drives are totally silent when stopped.

Let my rephrase my question.

Are stepper motors usually quite even in idle state with a high end Geckodrive vs. low end drives?

Thanks

Steppers don't make any sound when they aren't moving.

Servos may, depending on the feedback from the encoders. (Mine do, but it's not annoying enough to fix)

Steppers will make a niose when sitting still, depending on the quality of the drive the are attached to.

wahid,

Using our drives, a step motor is always totally silent when stopped. There is no hissing, squealing, grunting or whistling at any speed when step motors are used with our drives. The only sound you hear is the step rate of a turning motor. If it's not turning there is no sound. At all. If a room is totally silent, you will hear your own heartbeat before you will hear anything from the motor. I cannot speak for other drives because, well, they're not our drives.:-)

Most servo's systems are totally silent, moving or stopped.

Gecko stepper drives are very silent, but can make noise if mis-matched to a high inductance stepper motor.

In Action movies where a robot makes a ramping noise then moving its arms like Terminator2 it must be a stepper system. A servo makes no noise.

Also.. It may be humming..... because it doesn't know the words.
