I was a spindle builder at my previous job and now going to build spindle for my home built cnc. can I use a servo or a stepper motor with a suitable Gecko drive to operate the spindle. Has anyone done this before? Thanks Don |

| There are several threads which talk about using servo motors for running spindles. Here is one: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70824 In post #10 of that thread, there are links to some surplus treadmill motors. These are quite popular as motor replacements on small mills since there are controllers for them that can be driven by a 0-10V signal from a BOB or a G540. It is certainly cheaper than going the Servo route. Stepper motors wouldn't work very well because of the nature of their movement. As well they don't spin very fast and lose a lot of torque as the RPM increases. |
