Question G340 multiplier

Hi,

Before ordering, I would like to know how g340 can multiply clocks ?
If multiplier is set to 10 and my computer is sending one clock every minute to the g340 :
- will the g340 do 10 "steps" very fast every minute
- or will the g340 do one step every 6 seconds ?

thanks
GB

For the cycle time of one minute you will get 10 clock for the same cycle time.

Thanks but I'm wondering about the speed.

Can the g340 manage the speed smoothly or does it makes 10 clocks very fast, stop & wait and then do 10 other clocks ?
The example of one step each minute was amplified but what about one step per second ? Will the motor do 10 steps/second smoothly with a regular speed or 10 step each second and stop between each group of 10 steps ?
I don't understand how it can handle the speed you want.

thanks,
GB

It should be much smoother...you will never even know that it's happening. In fact it should improve the accuracy...

Thanks,

I still don't know what to buy...
Someone told me 340 is not so good because of multiplied clocks,
Others say it's very smooth... don't know what to think.
I'm not undestanding exactly how 340 is working so it's hard to choice....
Thanks again ViperTX,
GB

Buy me a Beer?

The only reason to get the 340 vs the 320, is if your controller can't send steps fast enough to the 320. Figure out how fast your servos need to spin, and then figure out how many steps you need to spin that fast based on the encoders you're using. If you can get that many steps from your controller, get the 320. Mach2 on a fast computer can send 45,000 steps/second. DeskCNC can send 125,000, I believe. It depends on your encoders and control software.

Thanks Ger21,

I know why using g340 instead of g320 but I would like to choice between :
- a g340 that multiply clocks
- a g320 with less points per revolution (even with a divider between encoder and g320).
I've heard that g340 with it's multiplier is fine but I can't figure how it can multiplying clocks smoothly.
for each clock my computer send, the g340 makes 10 clocks for example but how it can manage the speed ?
With multiplier at 10x :
- if computer send one clock each second, g340 will make one clock each 0.1 sec, very regular ?
- if computer send 100 clock each second, g340 will make one clock each 0.001 sec, very regular ?

It's hard to explain what I'm not undestanding but I think I will go to g320 (or 340 ?) and try.

Thanks,
GB

Yes, if the computer does one clock per second, the Gecko will do 10 clock (pretty evenly) over that one second.
