Thank you Irving. Looks like a lot of nice choices. I have done a DIY of the JGRO and I expect that it will want to grow a little (Lead screws and such). Any advice on Voltage and Amperage, as I really need a starting place. Thank you all. Tom Last edited by TommieK; 01-21-2009 at 06:07 PM. |

| If you have the G540 then 48v supply is the way to go for longer term capability, there's little point in going for a lower voltage. Your voltage must not exceed the voltage rating of the driver (the stepper motor voltage rating is irrelevant). Current capacity depends on your stepper motors. Either size for the motors you have now or size for the maximum drive capacity of the G540 if you expect to increase the motor size later. Power supplies are relatively cheap (48v 8.8A is $65-odd). You need a current capacity of typically 70% of 3x stepper phase current (4x for 4 axis). It doesn't matter if you have more capacity as the driver/motor will only take what it needs but there's no point in spending more than sensible. The G540 is 4-axis 3.5A so you will never need more than 10A from the supply if it is fully loaded on all 4 axis. |
