G540 PWM Mach settings

Hi everyone,
I have re-built a cnc router with the new G540 from Geckodrives. Wow!!!!! what an improvement. I can not get a voltage change on pin 8 (g540) for the PWM signal. Can anyone help with the Mach settings? Thanks.

Hi,

The PWM function on the G540 generates a voltage on pin 8 on the main terminal block that is a percentage of the voltage that you supply on pins 7 and 9. The percentage ration is calculated from the mark/space ration of the pwm signal on pin 14 of the DB25 connector.

The obvious question is, what voltage are you providing on pins 7 and 9 of the main terminal block?

Cheers,

Peter.

Voltage

Thanks Peter,
I have been working with the tech's at Gecko (very helpful with there products and we tested the g540 and it is fine. He had me use the power supply 12v to apply current to the 7 and 9 terminals. If Mach is set up correctly a voltage of 0 to 12v will be read on terminal 8. I have e-mails the xml file to Mach and all seems good. I would like to know the proper settings in Mach to verify my settings. I am stumped, I have tried several combinations but have not seen any change on terminal 8. I have entered this command to activate spindle at a set speed. m3s10000 It turns on the spindle but not PWM. Thanks

OK. What have you got your max pulley speed set to?

Cheers,

Peter.

Ok Peter,
I have confirmed that pully 1 was set up for min 0 and max 25000.

I am anxiously waiting to hear how you resolve this problem because I have the same problem.

I can monitor the parallel port with a scope and see the PWM signal. The frequency is 50Hz and I can vary the duty cycle with the S word.

I apply 10 volts from a isolated power supply to the main terminal pins 7 and 9. I put a 22k resistor as a simulated load between pins 7 and 8 and the voltage is always 0.

I have a green light on the G540 and I can move the steppers. I can also use the relay outputs to turn the spindle power on/off.

Any suggestions?
chuck

Question PWM on G540

Hi Chuck1024,
I have been working with Brian from Mach tech support over the last few days. We are trying to figure out why the Pwm signal is not working correctly. They just set up a machine with the G540 and are able to control the VFD through Pwm, now the questions is how and what are the proper settings! I will post what I find out as soon as I get it working.

Exclamation G540 Mach 3 settings PWM

Hi Chuck and everyone else out there that is trying to set up the G540 PWM in Mach 3. I have verified with a scope that these settings will produce a PWM signal on pin 14 of the DB-25 cable. I think the G540 VFD module is not working, I will send it in for evaluation.

My scenario is the same as yours. I have signal on the right pin and reference voltage on the right pin. The only think left is the black box inbetween.

Hello,

We have exactly this same problem.

Skidii, were you able to resolve it? (I presume you did it has been quite a while) Was it your G540 or a configuration issue with Mach3?

Do you (or anyone else) have the screen shots for how the configuration/settings should be to control the VFD through Pwm?

Thanks!

Daniel

Bump as I would like to know the exact settings in Mach as well?

Thanks,
Dave
