If you go beyond the 3.5k you will bypass the current reduction feature which is not a good idea. I believe that 1/4 watt is the proper size because it will fit inside the db9 connector. In another thread mariss stated that the 1/2 watt is physically larger and will potentially short out causing all kinds of problems.
