bgolash, Im not sure about the value of your resistor choice, but dont worry about hurting the drive. You can choose any value resistor from 1 amp which would be a 8.2k to no resister at all which would be for a motor over 7 amps. Bear in mind the current limit for a g-201 is 8 amps. You might underpower your motors or overheat them but your not going to hurt them. Unless you single step em at full current against a lot of mechanical resistence. I have run 0.5 amp steppers from 1 amp to wide open just for fun, and it didnt seem to hurt em, or the drives. I know some people think the 7amp+ rating means jumper terminal 11 to 12 but DONT DO THAT!! Wide open means no resister at all. Playing with resistors from 8.2k to open wont hurt the drive regardless of the motors rated current. But power the drives OFF if you even turn a screw on the drive.(That is except for the trimpot.) If you move anything from terms 1 thru 10 with the the drives powered up odds are pretty good you can fry your drive. (blow the opto)Short answer is put your resistor from term 11 to 12. actually you should ask Mariss as im pretty much a newbie myself. Im just relating what i have done. And Ill bet Mariss actually knows more than Stephen Hawking. |
