Geckodrive's new website is up!

Hello all, I just wanted to let you know our new website is functional and up. It is located at the same old address (www.geckodrive.com) and is a little bit slicker looking than the previous incarnation.

If you find any technical problems (dead links, typos, gibberish, etc.), please email our support, PM me, or post it here and I will work as fast as possible to fix the problem. Because of the new system, there may be some delay in processing orders but we are working to minimize that.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the site or recommendations of what we should add! We are looking to have a very comprehensive technical library, and if you can think of something we should put in there (Under "Support" and then "Application Notes") feel free to let me know.

Thank you!

Marcus Freimanis

Maybe an online forum for those of us who don't like Yahoo mail based groups
Let me know if you need help setting one up. (I have some experience there http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php )

Maybe not the place to post -- but is a website issue: Ref the G540

PDF on Page 3 of the G540 -- shows the E-Stop wired to Connector at 10 and 12 -- but previous page shows E-Stop at Connector 6 and 12 (12 being Earth). Which is correct? I expect page 2 of the pdf as it also shows that Connector 10 is an Output ( to LPT 16).

Great site - great work on the G540. Ahh, but as you know that the devil is in the details. (or did I miss this elsewhere?)

Ordering

I said i'd order one as soon as available - so I have!
One problem with the online ordering - it doesn't recognise any postcode / zip code outside the USA! Getting excited already!

All shipping rates are flat rate for domestic and calculated here for international. FedEx gives us awesome rates that we can not have on the automatic calculator on the website because the calculation is done for standard pricing. What would cost about $300 to ship will only cost us about $45, and we need to find a way to reflect that on the shipping page so we don't scare away foreign orders with artificially high shipping rates. We will find the cheapest rate we can get for international orders and pass the savings on to the customer; now all we have to do is figure out how to have that show up on our website in real time.

Your new site looks good. I have a suggestion from the mouse-overs on the product page. It would be nice to see the list of basic features for the drive instead of or in addition to the larger view of the drive. For example, the following data would show up on the 320 mouse-over

20A 80VDC
PID feedback servo drive
Quadrature encoder inputs
5VDC 50mA encoder supply
Opto-isolated step and direction inputs
20kHz PWM
Current limit settable 0 to 20A

It might help people narrow down their choices without having to go to every page.

A comparison matrix might also be nice. Sort of which Gecko is right for you thing...

As most would know, I love flash.
However, a warning for your web site. There will be many viewers who dont have flash installed, or use advertisement filtering browsers.
You might need to insert a detection script for those in this catagory, that redirects them to a pure html navigation.
Flash is only good for non important decorations. IMO.

And there are many people (like me) who still use dialup. I don't have the bandwidth for flash. I installed a flash player just to access the new gecko site. After waiting an eternity for the page to load, all I saw was an animated gecko and absolutely no links to any information whatsoever.

Take a hint from Google's site. K.I.S.S.

Well thats another point, Crawlers (Search engines) dont read flash files and therefor if there is vital listing information contained in the flash, it wont be reflected in the way Google or the others categorizes the listing.

BTW The banner in this forum (CNCZone) that links to Geckodrive no longer works, as you have gotten rid of that page.

Depressing when you have done something new and you feel proud of it, only to find it has lots of problems. Happens to me all the time. Keep at it, you'll get there.
