470uf 100v Capacitor for G203V

Hi Guys,

Could someone please tell me how critical it is to have a 470uf 100V capacitor on the Gecko G203V, now I have no problem locating 470uf at 63V but no one seams to have a 100V ones? The only one I could find was on Ebay and the guy is selling 200 pieces at once?? Is it ok to use a 63 Volt in place of a 100 Volt? or should I go higer Voltage?

Thank you, Grebbo

Thanks for that info Greg, I have my power supply at 48V but I figure if the caps get oveloaded then they will just blow and hopefuly not affect the drivers, hoping...

Sorry about that, I've got to learn to look and see where people are from. My bad!

I found this quote in another thread:
The G203V doesn't absolutely require an external 470uF/100VDC cap but it's nice to install one anyway, especially for larger motors.

hehe It's all good Jack If only the US was closer to Australia, I like their site though...
well I do run 640oz-in stepprers so it would be a good idea to put some caps on...

I bought mine from Farnell. Shipping still a bit steep for only 3 caps but on average its not too bad. (and its next day delivery)
Farnell part# 876-7696

Buy me a Beer?

Jaycar sell the 63V electrolytics for about $1.30 in single quantities - Jaycar part # RE-6210.

For your power supply caps they sell 10,000uF caps as well, $28.00. Not too bad for a fairly large cap (the 10,000 uF is rated at 100Volt as well)

Cheers.

Russell.

Thanks Russell, I have seen them at Jaycar but I was under the understanding the we had to use 100Volt but it seams that 64Volt will do??

What is you power supply voltage? If its near or over 63V i definately wouldn't. Caps are rated to a voltage for a reason and their failure mode is spectacular if you go over!
