Gecko Trivia - Anyone know what this is?

Picked this up as a cheap spare on Ebay. Appears that the 1-12 terminal wiring is identical to a G201. Can anyone confirm this for me?

That is a GEL201. It is a modified G201 that was meant to emit less radiation and is trimpot-less. It was made custom for an OEM customer when we were first starting out, but because of its niche application was nixed when their contract was up. It should work just fine.

Hey, no problem. Good choice on the subject title, which is what drew me in. I am a sucker for trivia, especially for stuff I should know. I will look up exactly what the differences are and let you know if there will be any operational differences with the drive, which I suspect there may be. What size motor do you plan on running this, and at what voltage/current?

Thanks Again!

This is a spare for my small high precision table. The motors are rated at 260 oz/in - current spec is 3A. Using a 55V supply.

Okay, did a little research on the GELs, and there is indeed a difference. These were meant to run on nothing more than 3.5A motors, or exactly half of the standard G201 current. Also, we used the IRF530s on these which had slightly worse performance in the higher current ranges than the current IRF540s, but that will not matter because you will not be taking this above 3.5A (or if you do, you won't be for long ;-) ).

Also, keep in mind that these have no trimpots. When a company makes a custom drive, there is typically a reason it doesn't sell the drive to more people. Looks like you lucked out by buying it and already having a low current motor. Enjoy!

Those are the same as the GEL201s except they were modified back to 7A. The GEL modification was 3.5A. If they have no covers then those are some of the 300 or so drives we donated to charity ($0) a few years back. For obvious reasons ($0 and we don't do tax write-offs), they carry no support or warranty.

Thanks, Yes those are for testing only and will shortly be replaced with your new g203v's, can't wait to buy them others already are for my new 4x4 machine design.
