OK, before I create a bunch of smoke, let me ask. Will a match between Gecko G293V and Parker/Compumotor S83–135 be a harmonious marriage? Or will one assassinate the other? In reading the S drive manual I found reference to 170 volts and knowing the the 203 is designed for 16 to 80 volts makes me a bit uncomfortable. Granted the drive is the source and the motor is the recipient but I would much rather have some knowledgeable reassurance before I turn on the power. comments, anyone? John |

| Well you not supposed to be able to BBQ the 203V... From a google it looks like a round stepper. Do you have any specs like resistance and current? That will at least tell you what voltage to run it at... For $40 you can get a pretty good square stepper from Automation Direct that works nice with the 203V John |

| Nothing will get BBQed except your expectations. A motor intended for 170VDC operation will be low current, high inductance and will have poor high-speed performance. Like Big John said; get a new motor.:-) Mariss |

| Thanks everyone. I already have a Keling KL23H286-20-8B on the shelf which will be a 25 oz/in increase over the Parker with its original drive. This project is to replace a blown drive on the Z axis on my mill so it won't have to move far or fast. I will try the parker stepper first as I'm too lazy to relish making a new mount with hand tools and then turn a bushing for the belt drive. At least now I can proceed without fearing the grief of losing another drive For anyone interested I've attached the S drive manual in PDF. The following quote it all I've been able th glean! "The S Drive provides power to the motor by switching 170VDC (120VAC input) at 21 KHz (nominal). This has the potential to radiate or conduct electrical noise along the motor cable, through the motor, and into the frame to which the motor is attached. It can also be conducted out of the drive into the AC power line.
