Hello, I have an old 1981 CNC machine that uses a Fanuc 3M Model A controller and old Fanuc Velocity Control Units that require a Tach signal. I want to replace these with Mach 3, GREX 100, and new drives (possibly G340). My Servo motors are Fanuc Model 0 DC Servo and the specs are as follows: TORQUE CONT. AT STALL 2.7 Nm AMP CONT. AT STALL 12A VOLT 56V RPM 2000 rpm EXCIT PERM. MAGNET INSULATION CLASS H PLUSE CODER AMB TEMP 40C No D-172557 Date 81.8 I believe the encoder has a 2500 count. My machine has an accuracy of .0001 and the controller has loads of safety features and other features like backlash compensation, etc. It just has one main draw back in that it can only simultaneously feed 2 axis at a time. This is the reason I want to replace it. Question 1: Do you think Mach 3 with GREX is a good replacement for my controller. I know it will allow all three axis to run simultaneously, but will I miss out on the safety features and other features that comes with the fanuc controller? Question 2: Will the G340 drive work well with a 2500 count encoder? I heard somewhere that Gecko drives only work with low encoder counts (i.e. 500 counts or lower). Question 3: Is it correct to assume that I will not need to use a drive's step multiplier with the GREX since the GREX can output up to 4Mhz? Question 4: I would rather not have to go out and purchase all new relays, power supplies, etc when I have perfectly good ones on the machine. Can I still use this 1981 equipment with the Grex? Question 5: Am I missing anything important that I need to consider? Thanks so much for your help. David |

| The g100 just generates the step direction signals. You still need the servo or stepper drives.

| 1.no, if you hook all of it back up. 2. ? 3.I think the 340 will take care of that 4. I think the encoders would be my only worry. 5. You'll need a pc
