I'm driving a 4.8 amp 1.8 v motor with 28v power supply. I have great power and a smooth movment at high speed but just chatter at low speed. Do I have to multiply my steps by 10 because the drive is a 10 microstep driver. I'm using CNCPRO Thanks Don C |

| Yes, but If you get the movement that you commanded, number of steps are OK. What I mean is when you command a 10mm move you get 10mm, then don't change. You should explain what you mean by chatter, and what kind of equipment mill/router/lathe. Does it drive through belts, acme or ball screws, gear and rack, or.... It may be that the chatter is the sound of the steps, which is quite normal. Try lowering the current to the steppers. And compensate with boost if you drives have it. That will make the steps less harsh, but also lower the available torque. You should not necessarily set the drives to the max allowed current for your motors. You should set it to what you need to avoid losing steps, but never higher than the nameplate current of the motors. If your drives have a boost function it will run more current at high step rates when it's most needed and makes the least noise. |

| I have a Gerber AR400 router. I am driving the motors at full winding. The router is gear to belt drive. I have two of this machines and the original controller drive smooth at all speeds but never went below 60ipm. Thanks Don C. |
