iv been read up on drives and want to know what is the best configuration, for 3,4 and maybe future 5th axis cnc system want to be able to expand in the future, if I want to build other cnc machines ie cnc router lath with indexer what should one buy for drive hardware... printer port controller or usb how does one add more than 4 drives , most laptop dont have extera printer port? |

| I suppose you are looking for Gecko drive hardware as you are posting in this forum I think using a G100 G-rex will be a good thing if you have more then 3 axis. Instead of 5 printer boards you have one unit with ethernet communication. Then you need the drivers. The price difference between the servo drives and step drivers isnt very much. But servo motors are generally more expensive then step motors. Servos are generally more precise then steppers because of the encoder. However the G100 G-rex features 6 encoder inputs so that you can install encoders to step motors and increase the accuracy. But i think the software for the G100 G-rex isnt ready yet for encoder features. |
