Heidenhain encoder

Will this encoder work with a Gecko 320? It is a Heidenhain ERO.
The encoder is marked:
ERO 120 500 F10
iDNr 220 155 10 sNr 1551729

Thanks

Vince

Buy me a Beer?

The ERO types come in both 5v differential and low level sine wave output, you may have to hook it up and see what the output is with a meter.
Alternatively, I have found Heidenhain very good when contacting them for information, at least the Canadian office is.

One of my main concerns is current draw. Mariss said that a lot of encoders draw more than the 320 can supply which will cause loss of encoder signal. I believe the 320 is limited to 50mA.

I did write an email to Heidehaim USA, but they are closed until Monday.

Most of the ERO TTL 5v versions are 140mA~160mA, there is not many encoders that run 50mA.

Mariss said there were not very many that were compatible with the Gecko. I know that US Digital encoders will work. I am hoping that I don't have to change them out.

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to use a separate 5v supply for the encoders?
Heidenhain & US digital are each end of the cost spectrum.

Maybe, but I would not know how to wire it to the Gecko. The Gecko has its own 5V supply that it references for the encoder signal.

AFAIK you just need to supply the encoders with the 5v supply and connect the 5v common and Gecko common and hook up the encoder outputs. do not connect the Gecko +5v with the aux supply +5v.
This is how it is normally done, but you may want to confirm this with Gecko.
