for your power supply what you will need to look for will be an unregulated power supply. You will need to match your power supply with your steppers/drives, so for amperage the drive will draw less than 2/3 of the motors rated current/phase for motors wired parallel and less than 1/3 for motors wired in series. for example a motor rated at 6 amp/phase will require 4 amps for parallel and 2 amps for series. If multiple motors/drives are used than you will need to add the current requirments together to get a total. Now for the voltage it should be between 3 to 25 times the motors rated voltage. The Gecko drives you are using will except between 24-80 VDC. The amperage for your drives should always be set at the motors rated current however the voltage is up to you really, increasing the voltage increases high speed power but with this increase it will also increase motor temperature so just keep that in mind. To answer your question I would use a 48 volt supply with 4 amps and that should be enough power for your system. |
