Is it much diffrent ????

Is it much diffrent in wiering up a G340 with servo motor then a G202 with stepper motor ?? it took me a while to figer out how to wier the Stepper motors i am just wondering if its much harder ???

Thanks

Wink No problem man!!

Hi man!

The two drives use a whole different technique(the aim is the same). But because i dont want to make it complicated, i will tell you one basic difference betweeen servo motor and stepper motor. The servo has only one winding(except for brushless servo) and the stepper has several windings(to allow it to make "steps").I think that wiring a servo motor is much easier than a stepper with windings, unipolar, bipolar, etc. But the servo needs some calibration with its encoder,in order to make it work ok.Servos in general are smoother than steppers. If you follow the manual(of the drive),have common sense, basic understanding of electronics, some tools(even for measurement) you will be just fine!

Anything else?

Cool More info!

Hi

Sorry man but i dont know where to find information on how servos work but i believe you could make a search through altavista, msn, google etc.
A normal DC servo has the magnets stationary and it rotates the windings(rotor)via the commutator.Commutator is the part of the rotor that has the brushes on it to receive its voltage and alternate the magnetic field. This servo has 2 wires one black and one red(indicates the polarity). The drive(gecko320) sends the command to motor(basically sends Pulse Width Modulation signals).Signals in pulses with different width. The PWM is expressed in kHz (in the case of the gecko is 25 kHz).In simple words the drive controls the "on" and "off" state of the power to the motor(more "on" state, more speed etc. on the motor). The result is variable speed. The other part of the servo is the Encoder. The encoder of the servo is a feedback system that "informs" the drive about rpm and position of the rotor. The encoder consists of a glass disc with lines on it.A LED and a photosensitive transistor.Between the lines of the disc is space. And when you rotate this disc the result is on/off state of the light. This creates signals that they go to the gecko drive and inform it about rpm and position.

More information about encoders you can find in:

Thats all!
