Hi Gang can anyone give me a good starting point to set up the motion parameters in TCNC? My X axis is giving me headaches, I've replaced the X Gecko unit thinking I'd blown it, but it's OK. I get rapids of 160 ipm on Y but X doesnt want to cooperate. It is considerably heavier, I was getting good movement but losing step. I know going too fast.lol.Triple checked the wiring too. What I would like to know are some good settings to start with. Like max. speed (HZ) 40000 max acc. (HZ) 30000 max start spd (HZ) 10000 pulse width (uS) 2 these are the settings I tried on my machine.Just X axis misbehaves and its running quite free although fairly heavy. computer= 200mhz IBM steppers #34 4.5v 1.4a sanyo Denki 48v ps (55v no load) 1/2 x10 acme rod Gantry style cutting area 29" x 15" all metal construction using skate wheel bearings. I've tried settings to 60000 doesn't make any difference to Y and Z |

| try switching the x and y motors to see if there might be a problem with the motor. I have those same motors and they just weren't strong enough. so I found some double stack of the same motor on Ebay and it solved my problem. the amp rating being 1.4a to 2.8a with a brewington driver.

| Hi Jimini, Sorry I cannot help you, but I see that you are getting some very fast rapids. I myself have been trying to set up Gecko 210s with very little joy. I am using size 34 double stack motors 2.5v 4.5amps, and they will not run at better than 100mm per min.(4"") at 24v supply. What current resistor are you using?. My leadscrews are 2mm pitch and motors 200 steps per rev. |

| Ivanfinlay I have my problems resolved now. I'm running @ 55v and the current set resistor is around 13k to give me 1 1/2 amps. It's been quite awhile since I set it up. Working very well with Tcnc4. I have 1/2 x 10 acme rod and homemade teflon rod nuts, I cut at about 35" min. I have small bits 1/8", 3/32" so any faster tends to snap them with deep cuts in wood. I had to mess around with the acc, and start speeds.I also replaced my Z motor size#23, and I was only cutting at 1/2 depth. Turns out it's a 400 step motor, can't stop the shaft by hand, even on the spider coupling body....Jim |
