Camtronics to Geckos

Hey guys,
I was just looking over the Gecko site and was wondering if anyone could tell me what "gain" in speed I could expect going from the camtroincs 2A board to a 201 gecko.

Everything else staying the same lets say. Just incase, I am using 180 oz/in bipolor steppers runing on 24V on a sherline. The computer I use is an old toshiba 75 mhz and CNCPro as the software.

IMO, Your best bet for more speed would be to get a larger power supply(40v is the camtronics max right?) and increase the voltage to the motors, while keeping the amperage the same.
But no more than 20x the motors rated voltage per motor.

This would allow you to achieve faster RPMs and increase your rapids significantly.

But if youre really interested in more speed / torque ,then switch over to servos, and scrap the steppers. But it will be about 3 times or more,as much as a simular stepper setup.
Then again ,servos for a sherline is a bit overkill

I'm not so sure about the 3X cost over steppers for servos. I sell brand new 430 oz/in peak servos with 250 cpr encoders for $150 each. I don't think the cost of a new stepper is much less. The most cost will be getting three Gecko G320's. They are $114 each. But if you are already thinking of getting G201's for stepper use then going servos is not much more.

Well,have I happen to have access to new 450 oz-in hybrid steppers for $49 each. This si what I was basing my comment on.

There are plenty of places to buy name brand steppers at discount prices from companies going out of business or in foreclosure sales if you google enough.
