A really fast Gecko

Hi,

I uploaded a short video that has an axis tooling along at 3,932 IPM. Please go to:

Video: 16 seconds, 1.234MB, 720 X 480 format, encoded using DivX 6.0, no audio; had to remove it because I swore when I nearly got nicked by the axis.

The average velocity is 51.4"/sec if accel/decel is included. The velocity 65.535"/sec after accel, before decel. The motor is an MCG IH230014 run in parallel at 3A/phase, 24VDC supply, PID closed-loop on the G100 driving a stock-standard G201. The distance in each direction is 20.000" Motor speed is 3,932.10 RPM, screw is 1"/turn, well oiled to keep it from overheating.:-)

Metric:

Avg velocity: 1.306 meters/sec. (7,836mm/min)
Peak velocity: 1.666 meters/sec. (10,000mm/min)
Distance: 0.508 meters in each direction.

The axis supply was cranked up to 75VDC in a previous run. The motor developed 165W mechanical (22 lbs of thrust at 65.5 IPS) and took a nice gouge out of my left thumb.

I had a brick as a load in that run duct-taped to the axis. It flew off and wrecked the keyboard. I opted for an "action figure" in the video instead.

I'd bandaged the thumb to stop dripping blood all over the test stand when I clicked the mouse in the beginning ot the video. The miserable thing nearly took another bite out of me.

Science sometimes demands blood.:-)

Hey, it's what I do every Sunday morning with some friends that do it every Sunday morning too. Shot a 234, 204, 184 and 115 today. Ignore the 115, I'm trying real hard to.
