Most Often Reccomended Encoders

I seem to recall one encoder is most often reccomened to go with the G320X. Still not convinced I am going with Gecko Drives, but I am leaning back that way. The encoders will need a .500" ID.

I am getting closer to the point where I will need to decide which encoders and drivers to use.

Buy me a Beer?

If you are looking for a low cost line, check US Digital or KOYO.
Koyo have a more extensive line including hand wheels.

lots of folks use the UD Digital encoders because they are relatively cheap. I don't think you can get a 1/2" bore, most of them were limited to 3/8" or 10mm.

If you can't find what you need from them, I'd recommend Renco.

I've noticed Renco have really trimmed their line down since the Heidenhain take over.

You are correct, they don't even offer a 1/2" bore anymore. Last I bought from them was when they were liquidating on ebay.

You could also turn down your shaft size or use a standoff and an adapter to get to a smaller shaft size.

This will get you the 1/2" shaft size but you might not like the $260 price tag.
