The traditional way to support the ERR output from the G320X is trigger an emergency stop. There are several issues to consider when interfacing with the G320X's ERR/RES signal: 1) This signal shares a ground reference with the motor power supply. If you want to retain the opto-isolation provided by Gecko on the Step and Direction inputs, you must also isolate the ERR/RES signal. 2) The ERR/RES signal is not intended to directly drive most opto-couplers. There is a diagram of a buffered interface for an LED (or input of an opto-coupler) shown on the last page of the older G320 servo drive users manual. Look under legacy products on Gecko's web site to see the G320. 3) The ERR/RES signal is both an input and an output. You must be able to pulse it with +5 volts to reset drives on power up, and then go back into a monitor the signal mode once they are running. The PMDX-126 provides a special I/O signal that provides all of the above. It will generate an emergency stop in response to an ERR from the G320X and will allow resetting the drivers from the host computer running Mach3. A full description of using the PMDX-126 with G320 or G320X servo drivers is shown in this application note: http://www.pmdx.com/Doc/AN125-2_GeckoRestart_01.pdf Regards, Steve Stallings www.PMDX.com |
