    G540 replacment question...

    Hi there,
Iv got a large router table ~6' x 10' travel. Which wasn't well planned out originally as its driven by 3/4 threaded rod (16tpi.) I understand realistically I should be looking at converting it over to rack and pinnion but at the moment I need to be able to salvage some functionality out of it first (perhaps use it to cut components for the upgrade etc.)

The X axis is powered by 2 34HST9805-37B2 (Chinese 878oz Nema 34) 2amps, 3.2 ohms, 15mH (If the published numbers are accurate.)

The Y is powered by a single of the same motor,

    the Z is an M1203 1203oz 4.9amp.

The system kinda works, so long as no more than 3 drives are attached, as soon as a 4th drive is running we have issues (board goes into safety shutdown.) It doesn't matter what drives are running (all combinations have been tried on all ports. Power shouldn't be an issue as im using a 20amp supply from keling.) I have even replaced the G540 and still had the same issue.

I am ASSUMING the problem lies in either the Chinese motors and or trying to drive too much hardware with a G540. (or perhaps user error.)

    So my question:
I need this system working, and working now I am considering going to 4x G203V and also replacing the motors with something less questionable.
This is what I have specked out so far and just want to see if there are any changes i should make before dropping another $1000+ on this machine.

    1) G203V x4
    2) C10 Break outboard from Keling
    3) KL34H295-43-8A x3 from Keling
    4)KL- 7220 x2 72V 20 Amp power supplies

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!

While it "shouldn't" be an issue, it could still possibly be an issue.

Are you able to monitor the power supply output voltage and waveform under load, preferably with an oscilloscope, or with a multimeter (voltage only) if a scope is not available?

Also, just curious, are you using current-setting resistors (what values?), and are they physically installed at the G540 axis connectors or at the motors?

Power supply voltage should be not more than 50vdc. Most people use a 48vdc PSU with the G540. I calculated a total phase current of 10.9 amps. (Total rated motor current times .67) A single 20 amp PSU should handle that with ease.

You didn't mention if you have a heat-sink on the G540. The Z motor is running fairly close to the maximum 3.5a phase current. (I calculated 3.28amp)

Do you have a fan installed to cool the G540?
